    November fun, keeping it local!

I wanted to tell you about 2 things that I am excited about and I think will interest fans of Lola's Lab.  One is about my latest obsession with Local Economics, and the other is about a local friend in theater who hit the big time at Signature!

First, did you know that dollars spent on local businesses are worth 4 times

more to your community than dollars spent at nonlocal businesses? Lately Lola has been reading a great book about this called, "The Local Economy Solution," by Michael Shuman and taking part in AWE (Arlington Women Entrepreneurs) Holliday market! AWE is a great organization that helps local businesses. The Holiday Shopping Fair s at Claire and Don's beach shack on the evening of November 11. They will have lot's of great things and Lola will be there with her design your own tees and signed activity books for sale (great creative gifts for kids under $20!) Bring your friends!

Secondly, something to see. Signature Theater's Girlstar: a pop musical fantasy for tweens and up is on now. Lola's ole' pal, actor, playwright Anton Dudley originally from Arlington has returned from NYC with a fantasy musical about an evil woman who wants to create the perfect pop-star.  It's onstage at Signature for 2 more weeks! In the past, plays at Signature are not the type for the younger set, but this play is different. It's good for tweens and up. Lola predicts this play will be a regular on the stages of high school's across America in years to come. What to know before you take your tweens/teens? It's a very dark commercial Disneyesque musical fairytale with all the usual content elements: evil female control freaks, glowing magical potions, beautiful heroine who grows up with out a mother (hey, what's with that???), great songs, sweet love story, but it's also a comedy. The music is seriously awesome! Girlstar at the Tony-winning Signature Theatre plays for 5 weeks, running October 13 through November 15. Tickets start at $40; family and student discounts available.
